BB Playlist: WFH
Working from home has confirmed those sleepy thoughts we have in the office at 8am: answering emails and checking our calendars could in fact be done from the comfort of our own homes—and without a bra. I’m grateful to be working during the pandemic, and that I’m able to clock in hours from the safety of my living room. It’s definitely been a transition, and even after a couple of months, I’m still getting used to my new desk. I’ve temporarily traded an unexceptional Ikea desk for a TV tray and lumpy couch. Sometimes, when I’m hyper-aware of my disgusting posture, I’ll switch to my kitchen island for a makeshift standing desk.
The Set-Up:
My Cravings by Chrissy Tegan mug, filled with coffee, rose gold laptop, rose gold insulated cup filled to the brim with water, rose gold planner… Okay, I think I’m realizing I have an addiction.
What It’s Missing:
Real. Life. Humans. Not the robot-voiced Zoom co-workers that I’ve become accustomed to. I miss water-cooler chats with my coworkers about our lunch orders and what we’re currently watching (“Gilmore Girls,” and it’s just as good as when I was 12). I miss popping into the other room and gossiping, “Did you see the email from Richard???”
What I’m Thriving Without:
When I was at the office, I felt shackled to my desk. If I’m not visibly there when someone needs me–does that make it look like I’m slacking off somewhere else? Now I can roll out of bed, start answering emails, and be “present” without feeling like I’m doing my job incorrectly, very normal workflow lulls and all.
How I’m Staying Sane:
Hello, Adriene, who has been recommended on BB before, because she has a video for e v e r y t h i n g. My WFH recommendation is this 14 min office break (Adriene is such a pro that she even does it in jeans, while I’m snug and comfy in my Girlfriend Collective bike shorts and an oversized Yankee’s tee). For those of you who have to go to the office twice a week, Adriene also has this quick 5 minute at-your-desk stretch with subtitles in case you forgot your AirPods at home.
It can be hard to stay inside all day, even at home I get so wrapped up in work that I forget to refill my water for hours, then I’m sitting there wondering why I’m so parched when my kitchen is right in front of me. In order to regulate a little normalcy during my day, I try to get outside once or twice and take a walk – once while it’s still light out, and the other after dinner.
Listening to music (see WFH Playlist below) or throwing on Cars in the background often helps me focus. Something about Lightning McQueen getting in touch with nature helps me through grueling Zoom meetings. Enjoy these jams.
