I’ve Been Using The Sculpt Society App for Three Months, Here’s How I Feel About It

As many of you already know, something that has positively benefited my hangin’-by-a-thread sanity during the past six months has been workin’ on my fitness. I always like to remind that I do NOT always mean Zooming with Brad for Barry’s At Home (every Barry’s instructor is a Brad to me), or even one of @LibbyChristensen’s lifting routines - I just mean moving my body. Some days that looks like yoga, others pilates, rarely a jog, the only constant is that I always feel energized and happier afterward. Now, trust me, I’m a New Yorker and I KNOW how hard working out can be in a teensy apartment. Some of you may even have grouchy neighbors below that bark at your jumping. I’ve been on the hunt for workouts, I approve of (*tongue pop*), that can be done in small spaces, but will still get an awesome sweat in.

I’ve gone over a few of my faves this summer: recommended some ‘gram livestreams and even went offff for @BaileyBrwn. However, there is another app I’ve been living for this summer. The app that has made me feel my absolute best—leaner than ever before—is The Sculpt Society app by Megan Roup.

Below are my top ten reasons why I think you should get the app if you’re looking for a living room friendly challenge. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, bury me in a crop top, ladies.

1. The app costs $15/month and, honestly, those fifteen bucks are totally worth it—especially in comparison to how much I used to spend on ClassPass and in-person at New York City studios. Legit those fifteen dollars are half of ONE. SINGLE. Rumble class.

2. The Sculpt Society workouts are doable in a lil’ baby apartment. All you really need for Megan’s classes are 2-3lb hand weights (or low-weight alternatives, like water bottles or cans), “sliders” (I use paper plates—glossy, eatin’ side down—and they work just as well as real sliders), plus a booty band, which you can get for cheap on Etsy.

3. Megan is known for her dance cardio. KEEP READING PLZ! I am not the best dancer, “combos” do not come easily to me. But Megan’s intro dance sequences to her longer sculpt videos really flow and they’re essentially just tolerable, dare I say - fun, cardio, which I’ve been hunting for years.

4. As I mentioned, not a dancer, so the longer dance cardio videos are not realllly my jam at this point. But I sometimes, I do dabble. It’s fun to feel silly and sweat out last night’s rosé. Megan’s dance videos are LEGIT cardio work. You will definitely get your heart rate up, as much as if you were running. Sneaky cardio!

5. PLANKS KILL. They hurt so baaaad. But they’ll get you the results you’re looking for — I’m talkin’ sideline abs, tummy fat burnin,’ and just overall definition. Megan introduced me to the bear-pose, and I honestly just started sweating thinking about it. I love Megan’s ab-centric videos because they’re a mix of cardio plank work and mat abs. You’ll be shaking.

6. QUICKIE VIDEOS. Megan has a whole treasure trove of quickie (5-25 minute) videos that target specific areas of the body. Her lower body sculpt videos are no yoke. You can squeeze one of these 10 minute routines in on even your busiest WFH days. And the best part? Even during these short videos, I ALWAYS SWEAT. So you’re still leaving feeling great. And by leaving, I mean, getting up and walking into the kitchen for lunch.

The above video is a great example of one of Megan’s lower body sculpt routines.

7. LOOONG VIDEOS. My favorite videos on The Sculpt Society app are the 45-50 Minute Full Body Dance and Sculpt workouts. These workouts begin with a cardio dance warmup (super easy to follow), followed by a cardio arm sequence using low-weights. Then Megan either guides you through standing leg work (think: curtsy squats and balance challenges) or takes you down to the mat for plank work with sliders. Then she will get into dem legs… and by legs, she means booty - every single time. Between working out your right and left legs, Megan splits the routine up with mat ab work, which is the non-break I never knew I needed so badly. Then each workout ends with about 5 minutes of additional dance cardio. I do these workouts 3-4 times per week and I always feel INCRED after because I sweat my tushy off. Legit droplets on the mat.

8. YOGA VIDEOS. Megan recently added another fitness instructor to her tiny team (it’s just her, lol). Tracey Copeland guides relaxing, yet athletic yoga flows that are super soothing and core-work heavy — best combo for yoga, in my opinion. Tracey also has videos targeted to recovery days that focus on deep, dynamic stretching.

9. GUIDED MEDITATION. I’m the type of person who struggles with guided meditation, but like, really wants to make it work? Normally I would go to Youtube and click on the first meditation video that came up, but in my experience Youtube is not the place for a beginner meditator. There are too many distractions! How am I supposed to concentrate on meditating when I see Grimes’ face with a tree on it in the sidebar? This meditation worked better for me.

10. Megan is awesome. She knows her shit. Her workouts are fun. She’s not too chatty, but she also won’t verbally attack you through the monitor if you take a 5 second break. Honestly, there are so many fitness instructors in New York that I don’t vibe with because they’re just way too aggressive. I’m sure some of you feel the same, while others love that type of instructor. Megan motivates me AND pushes. That’s really all I can ask for in an instructor.

BONUS: How could I forget to mention THE MUSIC?! Megan’s workout playlists are fantastic. See: the Janelle Monaé “Make Me Feel” remix I linked above. Everything has this vibe. Remix, but make it enjoyable to listen.
