Meet Emshika Alberini and Your Go-To Drink This Summer
Describe your culinary style in 3 words.
Simple. Delicious. Quick. I am a busy mom. :)
When did you decide to start your own business?
I have always dreamed of starting my own restaurant one day. After I graduated [from college], I worked in the corporate world for a few years in order to put my experience in Organizational Development to good use. My life took an unexpected turn when I lost my late sister, Ann, in 2007. I was devastated and realized that life is too short. After my sister's passing, I moved closer to my mother and worked on building my sister's dream into what the Emshika brand has become today.
You are working on a certificate in Sustainable Business Strategy from Harvard Business School, how do you plan to use sustainable practices in your business?
The pandemic created times of uncertainty as a business owner and a mother. I was worried about how my family would survive. I was very lucky that my business fell under the essential category, which allowed us to operate throughout the pandemic. Although the pandemic has taken a toll on us, I’ve had the opportunity to spend more time with my kids and continue my education. The online classes I’ve been taking through the Harvard Business School surround the topic of sustainable business strategy. I think that this is an important subject to learn about given the current status of our world.
Sustainability is not only important to me, but I believe it is important to my kids, my company, my community, and society as a whole. My beverage business is focusing on sourcing natural ingredients and no artificial additives. We use earth friendly packaging and streamline our processes. As a result, we’ve decreased our energy consumption and waste.
We love a good Thai tea! Tell us more about your new line of Thai iced teas!
We take pride in making our Thai tea just like traditional Thai tea. On top of the traditional flavor, our tea is all natural with no sugar added. Our products range from our Nitro Thai Iced Tea, Oat Milk, Nitro Thai Iced Coffee, and our Oat Milk Thai Coffee Latte.
What are some of your favorite recipes or cocktails to make with your Thai tea?
Living in New Hampshire, we are well known for maple syrup and pancakes. I love to add some Thai Tea Latte to my pancakes for a special twist. As for a cocktail, I love to add Tamworth Distilling spicy maple and vodka to our tea to make a “Thai-Tea-Tini.”
